Bernstorff charges through field to finish an impressive 2nd at Bahrain feature race.
A very disappointing qualifying session on the Sakhir circuit after limited running in free practice on Thursday saw Emil Bernstorff facing a mountain to climb to continue his string of wins and podium finishes in the important feature races.
Undeterred Emil Bernstorff drove a battling race passing the 2 championship leaders making an outstanding round the outside move on Ocon on the last lap before reaching the rear of the car of Kirchofer just a little to late to make the pass for the win. This great drive kept Emil’s hopes alive for the championship trophy but he would need a little help in the remaining races.
The sprint race taking place on the Saturday due the one off support of the WEC Championship was also an interesting affair as Bernstorff again had to fight from 7th due the the reverse grid format. Emil drove a great race to finish 4th with some great battles on the way.
Emil had this to say after the weekend:
“It was a good weekend! In race one I had a great car and managed to conserve my tyres well to make a hard attack at the end. I was pleased with my move on Ocon for second as he is not an easy guy to pass. Race 2 was also good as I battled up to 4th. I need to say a big thanks to the team, they give me a great car week in week out and did an amazing job getting my car ready for qualifying after a cracked gearbox in free practice. Now a couple of days of rest and getting ready for Abu Dhabi next weekend.”
